Despacito is a 2017 song made by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It was the single that became the most streamed and downloaded song worldwide within just the space of six months. The combination of reggaeton and pop music did not just draw interest back to the genre, but it also brought attention to Latin music as a whole. In 2015, there were two mostly songs with Spanish lyrics on the Billboard Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. The popularity of Despacito was at its highest in the year 2017. In 2020, 41 mostly Spanish songs will be included in the Top 100. Justin Bieber re-mixed Despacito with an English version in the year 2017. In the year following, popular artists began working with reggaeton acts. Drake teamed with Bad Bunny for the production of MIA (2018) and Madonna was a part of Medellin with Maluma (2019). The gradual mainstreaming of reggaeton became an issue for certain performers in the year 2020. Rauw alejandro and a young generation, however, were keen to keep the look.
