Taylor Swift was a rarity in pop culture: she was the only superstar to have moved from the country to mainstream and then to be an international icon of pop culture. Swift is shedding her country roots like it were a second-skin, and has proven herself to be one of the most savvy pop singer/songwriter of her time. Swift is able to take the zeitgeist of today and turn it into her personal. The first songs she released, such as the neotribute to Tim McGraw were a testament to her talents. However, her second album Fearless in 2008 showcased a songwriter finding her voice and a wider fan base. Fearless was an enormous success not just in America where the Top Ten singles Love Story, and You Belong with Me helped it to achieve six platinum records but also around the world. It performed particularly well throughout Canada Australia in Australia and Canada. U.K. Swift reached the heights of stardom after the release of Speak Now. She grew in popularity through her subsequent three albums: Red (2012), 1989 (2014) and Reputation (2017). Swift was now firmly established within the genre she was a part of. Her popularity grew even after she changed her strategy in 2020's more streamlined siblings the folk singer (and Evermore) and stayed at the top of the charts.
